com/careers/lcmcd This non-supervisory field technician position will perform duties assigned by the Aquatic Field Supervisor related to the triploid grass carp, aquatic weed control, and water quality laboratory and provide support to LCHCD's operations.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in the life sciences from an accredited college or university and/or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience that includes general knowledge of aquatic weed control practices Must have excellent computer skills and a demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, and have the ability to learn and operate internal, web based, GPS and mapping programs including entering data into phone Apps and databases Prior water quality laboratory experience is preferred Able to identify various aquatic plant species from the South Florida region Must be able to work varied hours including working on weekends as required Ability to operate District vehicles and the aquatic weed harvester.
Boat handling experience and knowledge required Must have basic mechanical skills to perform minor repair and maintenance on spray equipment, small engines and pumps Must be able to read and understand chemical labels instructions in English Must have a valid Class E driver license and a clean driving record Must pass the CORE and Aquatic exams within six months of hire and be able to maintain certification by earning appropriate CEU's (continuing education units) Must possess or obtain a Florida Boating Safety Education Identification Card within six months of hire.
About Us The Lee County Hyacinth Control District (LCHCD) is an independent special taxing district, which is overseen by seven (7) elected Commissioners, who also oversee the Lee County Mosquito Control District.
LCHCD is located on the Buckingham Airbase of WWII in Lehigh Acres, FL (near Fort Myers) and is responsible for the maintenance and control of water hyacinth and other aquatic weeds on the Caloosahatchee River and other waterways within Lee County.
